Project & Today

As everyone knows, I have had many broken bones in my life so far. I think I have broken about 15 bones since I was in 5th grade. The one bone that I have had the most problems with is my right ankle. I broke this ankle about three times and my second time I had my cast on for two months. Every now and then my right ankle starts to hurt, especially today. Everytime it rains my ankle aches and swells. This relates to my project because I everytime I have broken a bone I had to go to therapy and do differnet exercises. My ankle still is not 100% healed and every so often it hurts, like today. Stupid rain!

Current Events.

This weeks current event is not the usual current event like prior blogs. This blog entry will be about the "Kick Off Night" held on January 20, 2009. At first arriving I thought it was not going to be a success. Mostly everyone, their family, and the mentors showed up, but no sponsors. I thought to myself, what is the point of this if there are no sponsors, but I got more out of it then I thought. At the kick off event, every student had to stand and speech in front of everyone. I was completely scared and thought to myself, " I can't do this." When my name was called I stood up and just acted like my normal self and I got through it. It was not as bad as I amagined it would have been. It made me have a little more confidence for the next time I have to speech in public. This event also has gotten me ready to finally speak to my mentor. I was and still am a little scared to talk to my mentor face to face but people at this event made me feel less worried. Many people complimented my public speaking abilities and the way I present myself. therefore, I feel more comfortable in front of a crowd of people and people as indivudals. Good deeds and maturity.

Today was a good day for this blog entry. I actually had some mentor drama today that had to get taken care of. This was a very serious and confidential matter and I believe the three other mentors and I took the siutation at hand very adult like. It took a lot out of me to really listen to other peoples' stories and their side of the whole situation. But by the time they were done I really did understand what was going on and why things have been the way thye were. I am glad that the other three mentors and I could sit down in a room alone and discuss important issues. It is going to make class much easier and make it more fun for us and our freshmen.

You are what you read.

Stressed out recently? Whether it be school, work, or just life in general, being stressed makes life so much harder than it should be. Also, when you are stressed out it tends to make you more stessed. I think we are stressed out because everything in today's society is rushed. It is all about technology and getting stuff done faster and easier. I believe if people did take a little more time to do things, they would not be as stressed. Also, people need to make more time for themselves. People are always on the go and doing something, they need to just take some time out of their busy schedules and chill out.

So, if you feel like your stress level is too high, try to do some items on this list. A little effort now means a lot less stress, later.

Go to bed thirthy minute earlier.
Get up twenty minutes earlier than usual.
Before you go to sleep, prepare for the morning.
Bring a hat and an umbrella.
Don’t wear tight clothes or uncomfortable shoes.
Make a list.
Listen to a favorite song.
Keep extra cash and stamps in the house.
Be polite and be fair.
Laugh out loud.
Have a good book to read.
Keep an extra set of keys.
Exercise.
Always keep your passport in the same place.
Throw something away.
Don't say mean things about other people.
Put a Bandaid in your wallet.
Keep gas in the car.
Pay attention to someone else.
Make your bed.

Weekend.

This weekend was nothing new. On friday night, I went to the movies with Katie, Tyler, and Charlie to see Youth in Revolt. The movie was funny and entertaining for the most part. Aside from the movies I did nothing special at all. I rarely get to see my boyfriend because of my school schedule and his work schedule so I spend the Saturday night and Sunday night at his house and just hung out with him. It was good to just relax and do nothing all weekend for a change. Normally I have so much to do and not enough timein the day. But this weekend I laid around and watched movies and relaxed. Not having school on Monday was good too. I went to my aunt's to babysit my two little cousins and it was fun. The time went by fast, there were not problems and i got paid. Overall this weekend was a plus. Even though I did not do anything, it was good to just relax and be around my boyfriend.

Winter, Health, and Energy

Winter is when nature slows down and sleeps. When times get cold, it is good to take some time to yourself to restore energy. Do not resist the urge to cuddle up into your warm home and relax. “It turns out that the law of nature requires you to slow down in the winter.”

In the article I read there are 5 secrets that will preserve your energy, bringing you health and tranquility.

1. Early to bed, rise when the sun is up
-go to sleep early
-at least 8 hours of sleep every night
-try taking a 20- to 30-minute easy walk one hour before you go to bed to improve the quality of your sleep

2. Be contented
- avoid experiencing excessive emotions in the winter because they drain your energy reserves

3. Nurture energy storage
-engage in activities that are in harmony with the energies of winter

4. Eat for the season: no raw, cold foods
-avoid cold and raw foods, reducing salt to protect your kidneys, and increasing bitter
-steer clear of raw vegetables, cold salads, and icy cold foods and beverages

5. Avoid coldness and linger around warmth
-Dress warmly
-drink warming tea
-chinese herbs can protect your energy reserves and boost your immunity

Good deeds and Maturity.

I enjoy helping my freshmen. As a senior mentor I seem to always have something to say about them. So far two out of my two blogs dealing with good deeds and maturity revolve around my lovely freshmen; Kylee, Bruce and Shakyra. Everyday I lecture them and give them somewhat entertaining speeches about high schoo life and being a senior. The speech I gave to my freshman was notable more for its brevity than for its clarity. They seem to be interested in everything I have to say. To maintain their attention I have to keep my lectures short, sweet and to the point. Their attention spand is that of a fly, therefore, brevity is of much importance. The most effective way to capture an audience's attention when telling a story is to use brevity versus being very detailed and long-winded.

PIMPPPLLLESSSSS BE GONEEE!!!!!
I was surfing the web when I came across somewhat of a health article. It is not the normal article or story I would blog about but I found the contents intresting enough to add it to my blog.

Home Remedies for Acne, Pimples that are Easy and Effective
1. To treat acne naturally, take steam bath and then rub the peel of a lemon on the face before bathing daily for some days.
2. Keep your bowels clear to remove pimples.
3. Rub nutmeg on a stone with raw milk. Apply this paste on the affected areas. Let it dry. Then wash your face with lukewarm water. You can apply this paste in the night and wash it in the morning. Apply twice a day.
4. Olive oil is also used as a home remedy to clear acne. If applied regularly on the face, it clears pimples, acne and scars.
5. Do not squeeze pimples with your hands or it will spread more quickly and leave scars.

Weekend.

I somewhat grew over the weekend. I went out and made new friends. I made friends with people I did not think I ever would. They showed me that everyone deserves an equal chance and never to judge a book by its cover. Also, I did visit a new place. On Saturday, I went to Sportz Central for softball practice. There, I practiced catching and hitting. It was my first time catching, throwing and hitting since last softball season, therefore I woke up completely sore.

Having touble seeing your toes? Two out of three men are carrying around extra weight. Instead of working out, Americans sit at fast food places and sit at desks for hours at a time. Good deeds and Maturity.

Everyday I help the lives of freshmen and others around me. I am a senior mentor and everday I need to guide my freshmen and help them improve thier lives. The first thing I did to help my three freshmen was to get them more organized. I do a daily agenda check and I make sure they write down all thier classes and thier homework, even if they do not have homework in a certain class that day they must write "none". Also I make sure if they play a sport or are in the play, the games and practices are written in their agenda. Having everything written down makes it easier to remember and it makes life more organized. I cannot stress anything more than organization, it simply makes things so much easier!

I believe that I am viewed as a role model in school by my freshmen. I feel they trust me and really look up to me. Every week when we print out grades I share my grades as well with them and they always say, "I want my grades to be like yours." I am glad I am seen as a role model to my freshmen because they are very important to me.

I have assumed adult responsiblities. Even though I currently do not have a job I do still believe I carry out adult responsibilities. I go to school everyday and try my best in school. I do this because I would like to go far in the future and I know i cannot without school. School is my number one priority and I think that it is a mature responsibility. I also carry out the "adult" responsibility but driving. I think driving is an adult responsibility. Lastly, I will be going away to college and I will be on my own. I really believe that that is an adult responsibility.

Ankle sprains are the most common sports injuries. These injuries occur more frequently than one would think. Ankle sprains result from the force around the ankle that exceeds the limits of the supportive ligaments of the ankle but is less than that which would break the ankle bones. Most sprained ankles are self-treated and do not need to be taken care of by a doctor, therefore, most injuries are not documented. "Sprained ankles have been estimated to constitute approximately 15% of all sports-related injuries. More than 23,000 people per day, including athletes and nonathletes, require medical care for ankle sprains in the United States."

Physical Therapy/ Orthopedic Surgery

What exactly would you like to prove?
I want to prove that being a doctor, physical therapist, or orthopedic surgeon is not about the money. It is about helping people and bettering them.

What about your project would you like to start researching?
Considering I do not know much about my topic I would need to research everything. But to narrow it down I would like to reserach the different types of orthopedic surgeons. There are many different types; pediatric, elderly, disordered, ect...

If you had to write seven pages about something, while conducting exhaustive research, what would it be about?
If I had to write a seven page paper, which I'm guessing we will be doing in the future, I would write about the hisorty of physical therapy/orthopedic surgery, how it became what it si today, what new technology there is to help, what the industry is like, and the time and money.
